Arlington County is a county in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The county is situated in Northern Virginia on the southwestern bank of the Potomac River directly across from the District of Columbia.

Arlington is home to 236,842 residents and covers 26 square miles. Arlington is the geographically smallest self-governing county in the U.S., and by reason of state law regarding population density, it has no incorporated towns within its borders. It is the 5th highest-income county in the U.S. by median family income and is the 11th most densely populated county in the United States.

Arlington is home to the Pentagon, Reagan National Airport, and Arlington National Cemetery. In academia, the county contains Marymount University, George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School, the administrative offices buildings and graduate programs for the Schar School of Policy and Government and the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution, as well as satellite campuses of the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech. It will soon house Amazon HQ2, the co-headquarters of Amazon.

Arlington County is a great place for lovers of the outdoors and nature with many parks and recreation areas. Lubber Run Trail is a great little park with a stream running through the middle of it. Quincy Park is a city park with baseball fields, covered picnic areas & courts for tennis, basketball & volleyball. Lubber Run Park, this park has loads of fun things to enjoy!  By the community center are multi-purpose lighted courts for pickleball, volleyball, and basketball along with a playground featuring a large net climber, sandbox, and group swings. Mosaic Park is a small neighborhood park featuring bocce-ball courts & a playground with a climbing wall. James Hunter Dog Park, is a park where pups can roam free at this dog park with a small pool & waterfall, plus tables & benches for owners. Oakland Park is a great place to relax, eat your lunch at one of the movable tables, meet up with friends, throw around a frisbee and enjoy the day. Rocky Run Park is a community park covering 2 acres, with a multi-use oval field, a basketball court & playgrounds. Bluemont Park features streams & multi-use paths plus several sports courts, fields & disc golf. Bon Air Park Rose Garden has elaborate formal gardens featuring roses & ornamental trees, a popular site for wedding photos. Hayes Park is a cozy park offers tot & school-age playgrounds, a covered picnic area, plus a summer splash pad. Lyon Village Park is a 1.5-acre recreational area with picnic tables & a playground plus tennis & basketball courts. Lacey Woods Park is a 14-acre park that features all kinds of sporting and picnic facilities including a lighted basketball court, picnic shelter, charcoal grills, a playground, a multi-use field primarily used for youth soccer, nature trails, wooded areas, open green space, and a fire ring. Herselle Milliken Park is a small 0.2-acre passive park with benches in an urban setting.  The site honors civic activist Herselle Milliken (1915-1997). Oak Grove Park features a gazebo, a playground, a rectangular field, and a paved walking trail. Alcova Heights Park is a 13-acre neighborhood hangout featuring sports courts & fields, a playground & a picnic shelter. Virginia Highlands Park is an urban park offering play equipment, athletic fields & courts for basketball & tennis. Maywood Park is a small, quarter-acre, fenced in park and playground located in the historical Maywood District neighborhood. Long Branch Nature Center & Park is a wildlife sanctuary with nature trails, educational exhibits & classes & a viewing pond. Clarendon Central Park is located in the heart of Clarendon, this one-acre park features a War Memorial dedicated to Arlington citizens who gave their lives in wartime. Penrose Park is a two-acre open green space packed with picnic tables with a shelter, charcoal grills, a basketball court, a playground for 2-5 year olds and one for 5-12 year olds. Arlington Hall West Park is a 7-acre park featuring a playground for children and a picnic area with a grill that’s great for cookouts and picnics. Fort Barnard Dog Park is a great community dog park. Hillside Park is a simple neighborhood green space with ample foliage, a paved walking path & benches. Woodstock Park is a 1 1/4 acre grassy area complete with a water fountain, a playground, and a drop-in basketball court. Towers Park has a playground plus tennis, basketball & sand volleyball courts, a community garden & dog park. Fort C.F. Smith Park is a 19-acre grounds house Civil War battle earthworks, a 20th-century mansion, trails & wildlife. Windy Run Park is a park complete with a stream and nature paths.Prospect Hill Park is a 0.4-acre park and has a wonderful view of the Air Force Memorial, the July 4th fireworks, and Washington, D.C. across the Potomac. Hayes Park is a cozy park that offers tot & school-age playgrounds, a covered picnic area, plus a summer splash pad. Gulf Branch Nature Center & Park is a great neighborhood green space. Barton Park is a quiet 3-acre community park featuring a healing rock garden, labyrinth, gazebo & open green space. Troy Park is a 2-acre neighborhood park offering a playground, basketball courts, a horseshoe pit & picnic tables. Westover Park is a 4-acre area featuring baseball fields, volleyball & basketball courts, a garden & a picnic shelter. Douglas Park is a beautiful park with picnic shelters and tables. Woodlawn Park is a one-acre park with a stream, a playground, a soccer field, a half basketball court, open green space, a drinking fountain, picnic tables, a path, and a passive sitting area beside the stream. Eads Park is a grassy park offering a playground, multi-use athletic field, gazebo & charcoal grill. Rock Spring Park is a two-acre pleasant wooded park with benches in residential settings. Parkhurst Park includes a play area for tots with fun activities such as swings, spinners, and a sand area. Fraser Park is an open green space complete with grills and picnic tables for an outdoor meal. Glebe Road Park is a large forested park featuring tennis, basketball & pickleball, plus nature trails & picnic tables. Donaldson Run Park is a secluded 4-acre park featuring a pond & stream, a nature trail & paved paths in a wooded setting. Benjamin Banneker Park is a basic 11-acre park featuring trails & picnic areas with grills, a playground, playfield & a dog park. Fields Park is a 4-acre green space containing a field for football, soccer, or lacrosse, plus a formal garden. Glencarlyn Dog Park has a dog area beside a hiking trail & rocky creek provides a wooded spot for off-leash activities. Gateway Park is a 3-acre urban park with DC views, a fountain & plantings, plus an amphitheater with many events. Glebe & Randolph Park is a great little park in the city. Charles A.Stewart Park is a 4-acre grassy park dotted with trees and offers a sports field, a half-basketball court & a gazebo. Fort Bennett Park and Palisades Trail is an 11-acre city park & green space with a nature trail & a historic covered spring house. Fillmore Park is a city green space offering tree-shaded picnic areas, walking paths & baseball & softball fields. Bluemont Junction Park has good trails and fun parks for the kids. Madison Manor Park is a neighborhood park offering basic athletic facilities, a playground, a picnic shelter & a stream. Thrifton Hill Park is an easygoing forested natural area with trails along a stream, open green space & picnic tables. McCoy Park is a wooded community park featuring a paved walking & biking path, expansive green space & picnicking. Glencarlyn Park Playground has a kid’s play area with slides surrounded by woodland within Glencarlyn Park. Fort Ethan Allen Park is a 15-acre green space that offers a playground, basketball court & multi-use field, plus a dog park. Freedom Park, this smaller public space features a paved walkway, benches & inventive landscape architecture. Fort Scott Park has a green space with nature paths, a playground, athletic fields, a tennis wall & a basketball court. And Upton Hill Regional Park is a sprawling suburban greenspace with a summer water park, trails, mini-golf & batting cages. 

Arlington is home to a number of colleges and universities including Strayer University, Marymount University, and University of Management and Technology.
